[edit] Information
Old friends Wynne Evans and Joanna Page embark on an unforgettable adventure along the south Wales coastline, travelling by boat from Cardiff to St David's. Their mission? To rediscover the art of relaxation, reconnect with Wales, explore the breathtaking coastal scenery, learn the basics of sailing - and most importantly, have fun! Joining them on their journey are their skipper, Wayne, and Wynne's faithful dog, Ginny.
[edit] Chapter 1: Casting Off
They set sail from Cardiff Bay and tackle their first challenge: navigating the Cardiff barrage. From there, they head to Penarth, where they join the local rowing club and take a spin under Penarth pier in a rowing boat aptly named Wynne Evans.
Next, they make their way to Barry Island, a place close to Joanna's heart as the iconic setting of Gavin and Stacey. Here they reunite with Marco of Marco's Café, enjoy the arcade, and Jo convinces Wynne to confront his fears with a thrilling ride on the island's legendary log flume.
[edit] Chapter 2: Shipshape
Their first stop is Porthcawl, where they meet three Elvis tribute performers among the hundreds who flock to the town for its annual Elvis festival.
Sailing on, they pass the industrial landscape of Port Talbot before inflating their dinghy to land on Aberavon Beach. Here, they enjoy a wander and a lively round of mini golf, much to the delight of Wynne's dog Ginny, who is convinced the golf balls are just for her to chase.
Arriving in Joanna's home city of Swansea, the pair savour a seafront coffee and join a relaxing beach yoga session, although Wynne opts out early to visit the local market. Back on board, he whips up a Welsh-inspired paella, providing the perfect end to another day of adventure.
[edit] Chapter 3: Tied Up In Knots
They leave Joanna's hometown of Swansea and make their way toward Wynne's beloved Carmarthenshire and one of his favourite places in the world, Llansteffan.
Their journey takes them via the stunning Gower Peninsula, where they explore fields of sunflowers and visit the dog-friendly Rhossili Beach. There, Wynne shares a heartfelt story about how his dog, Ginny, has been his anchor through some of life's darkest moments. Before returning to their boat, they try their hand at mackerel fishing.
Sailing onward to Carmarthen Bay, they catch the unique amphibious ferry from Ferryside across the estuary to Llansteffan. Here, they discover that food tastes even better when you've foraged it yourself, bringing their day to a perfect close.

[edit] Chapter 4: Plain Sailing
They travel from Carmarthenshire Bay to the charming town of Tenby in Pembrokeshire.
Their journey begins in the picturesque seaside town of Saundersfoot, where they try their hand at paddleboarding. Next, they head to Laugharne, the former home of poet Dylan Thomas, where Wynne treats Jo, a busy mother of four, to some much-needed spa time.
They make a nostalgic stop in Pendine, a childhood holiday spot for Wynne, where he fulfils a lifelong dream of becoming an ice-cream seller. Their adventure concludes in beautiful Tenby, with its iconic brightly painted houses. There, they receive a warm welcome from the local male voice choir, and Wynne introduces Jo to the woman who helped launch his operatic career.
[edit] Chapter 5: Still Waters Run Deep
They sail through Pembrokeshire, from Tenby to Dale, and then along the serene Cleddau Estuary to Lawrenny.
Their adventure begins with a once-in-a-lifetime experience—swimming with puffins off Skomer Island, provided Jo can wrestle herself into a deep-sea wetsuit!
From there, they navigate past the bustling port of Milford Haven, heading for the tranquil waters of Lawrenny Quay. Here, they moor up to get an even closer look at the picturesque Cleddau Estuary, swapping their boat for kayaks to explore its quiet beauty.
[edit] Chapter 6: New Horizons
They journey from Milford Haven to St David's, sailing along the stunning South Wales coastline. As they navigate the picturesque Pembrokeshire waters, they set off from the tranquil Cleddau River estuary and venture into open seas.
Their first stop brings them to the RNLI St David's lifeboat station, where they join the dedicated crew for an exhilarating training exercise, even taking turns at the helm of the lifeboat. Next, there's a whistle-stop visit to St David's, Britain's smallest city, before returning to their boat to continue the journey.
The adventure culminates at the idyllic Porthselau Beach, where Wynne and Jo realise their dream of a seaside swim. Joining locals for a bracing dip in the waves, they celebrate the end of their voyage before turning the boat around and setting course for home. A fitting finale to their unforgettable journey!
